This film premiered at the Adler Planetarium featuring our visualization of two early planets crashing into each other and forming a “synestia” – a sort of celestial donut of vaporized rock – that would eventually coalesce into the Earth and the Moon. This came from a smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulation by Sarah Stewart at UC Davis.
